Best time to visit
May to October (the dry season) for the best wildlife viewing and comfortable travel; the desert nights are cold. The green season (November–April) brings dramatic skies and lower prices. Sossusvlei is stunning year-round at sunrise.
Getting around
The compact centre is walkable; taxis and app cars cover the city. Most visitors hire a car (often a 4x4) here to explore Namibia's vast distances — the country is a self-drive dream. Sossusvlei is a 4–5 hour drive southwest.
