If bad weather cancels my flight, am I entitled to a refund or just a rebooking?
Cash compensation is off the table for genuine weather cancellations, but you still choose between a full refund of the unused ticket and re-routing at the earliest opportunity — and duty-of-care (meals, hotel if overnight) applies regardless of cause.
EU 261 Article 8 gives passengers the choice between full ticket reimbursement within 7 days and re-routing to the final destination at the earliest opportunity, comparable conditions. Weather does not remove that choice — it only removes the cash compensation under Article 7. Duty-of-care under Article 9 (meals, communications, hotel if the wait crosses a night) is owed no matter the cause. If the airline pushes only a voucher, ask for the cash refund in writing; vouchers are optional, not mandatory.
