Practical notes for Tbilisi

Best time to visit
April to June and September to October bring mild weather for walking the old town and hillside neighbourhoods. Grape harvest in September and October is a strong reason to combine the city with a wine-region trip.
Getting around
Tbilisi's metro is fast and cheap for crossing the city; the old town, Sololaki, and Chugureti are best explored on foot given their steep, narrow streets.
Currency
Georgian Lari (GEL)
Language
Georgian. English is increasingly common, especially among younger generations and in tourism.
Timezone
GET (UTC+4)
Current trends
Chugureti, once industrial, is now the city's fastest-changing neighbourhood, anchored by new boutique hotels and a growing bar and restaurant cluster. Tbilisi opened its first wine window, inspired by Florence's, on historic Atoneli Street in 2025.
