Best time to visit: June to September and December to February for the drier seasons, ideal for gorilla trekking and travel. The 'long rains' (March–May) are wet but green. Kigali's altitude keeps it mild year-round.
Getting around: Moto-taxis (helmeted motorbikes) and the Move/Yego apps are the quick, cheap way around the hilly city; regular taxis and app cars too. The city is spread across hills, so walking is limited. The volcanoes and gorillas are a 2–3 hour drive north.
