Is Copenhagen worth visiting in winter?
Yes — it is peak hygge season. Christmas markets at Tivoli and Nyhavn run late November to early January, hotel rates drop 20–30% outside the market weekends, restaurants take walk-ins that are impossible in summer, and the low winter light is genuinely photogenic. Skip mid-February to March; that is the flat month.
December is Copenhagen at its best: Tivoli decked out, Nyhavn markets, ice-skating at Frederiksberg, candle-lit bakeries. The city was built for winter and knows how to run it. Hotel prices are below summer once you clear the Christmas week peak. Restaurants that require months of advance booking in summer (Noma-family, wine bars) take reservations more easily. January is genuinely quiet and cheap. Mid-February through March is the low point — grey, damp, no snow, no market. April sees the first light and price bump.
