When is the best time to visit Rome?
April to early June and mid-September to October are ideal: mild weather, long days, and outdoor life without the July–August heat and cruise-ship crowds. Rome in November and February is quiet and cheap; August is a genuine local ghost town as Romans holiday.
Shoulder seasons are unusually kind to Rome. April to June brings warm days, cool evenings, and every restaurant putting tables outside. September and October avoid the summer heat while daylight stays long. July and August are 35 °C+ and thick with cruise-ship day-trippers; central restaurants close for the August ferragosto. November and February are the value windows — cool but rarely cold, sights uncrowded, and hotel prices at their lowest outside the January quiet week.
