Which Berlin neighbourhood should I stay in for nightlife?
Kreuzberg (36) for the classic Berlin club scene (Berghain, Watergate, Ritter Butzke), Friedrichshain for edgy bars and RAW-Gelände, or Neukölln for the current young-and-cool bar mile along Weserstraße. Avoid Mitte for nightlife — it is a business and shopping district that closes early.
Kreuzberg 36 (east of Kottbusser Tor) remains Berlin's nightlife heart: Berghain a short cab away in Friedrichshain, Watergate on the Spree, Ritter Butzke in a courtyard. Friedrichshain around RAW-Gelände is the parallel scene, tilted younger. Neukölln has taken over the small-bar circuit — Weserstraße and the streets around Hermannplatz. Mitte is Instagram-tourist Berlin and closes early. For clubbing weekends, Sunday afternoon is the actual peak (clubs run 40+ hours from Saturday night).
